Group Classes In Guitar:
Intro to Guitar
This introductory class has been designed to give students the fundamental knowledge necessary to be able to start playing the guitar in a very short period of time. This a comprehensive course in which proper technique is always stressed, with the intent that each student can learn to play music that interests them in the near future and for years to come. The exercises and materials used for practice come from contemporary music, custom-tailored for each individual group of students based on their musical preferences. Songs and exercises will be taken from the vast classic rock to modern pop repertoire. "Intro To Guitar" will include: learning to tune the guitar, proper left and right hand technique, basic guitar chords, strumming patterns, and basic fingerpicking.
Guitar I
This class is the next step after "Intro To Guitar" and focuses on proper left hand technique, with an emphasis on switching from chord to chord, thus enabling the students to successfully play songs of their choice, appropriate to their level. This class also covers right hand technique, including simple strumming patterns and picking exercises. As with all our guitar classes, the material used comes from contemporary music, selected in accordance with the students' musical tastes.
Guitar II
Guitar II introduces new types of chords (including power chords), as well as more complex strumming and picking patterns, and playing single note melodies. Basic sight-reading is covered, as well as understanding the common tabulature notation. The repertoire will include more selections from contemporary pop, rock, and blues, ensuring that the practice material is relevant and fun.
Guitar III
This class introduces barre chords and strumming/picking patterns specific to these types of chords. Standard notation and tablature are studied and used in learning more complex musical pieces. The concepts and principals of improvisation (soloing) are explored through learning basic scales and their application in blues and rock music. Like the previous classes, this class promises to be both fun and challenging. All materials come from contemporary and classic pop/rock in order to make your guitar-learning experience all the more enjoyable!
Each class consists of 15 weekly sessions, each one of which is 1 hour in duration.
