Rocky Yera - saxophone

Having shared the stage with such renowned musicians as Wynton Marsalis, Arturo Sandoval, Roy Hargrove, Eldar Djangirov, Ira Sullivan, Dave Koz, Eliane Elias, Willie Pickens, Chuchito Valdes, Victor Garcia, and Tito Puente Jr., Cuban-born tenor saxophonist Rocky Yera brings a wealth of performance experience to the classroom. Throughout his high school years at New World School of the Arts, Rocky was acknowledged with the Downbeat Outstanding Performance award and was selected to perform at the noted High School Grammy Band. As a college jazz performance major, Yera was granted a second Downbeat Outstanding Performance award. Upon his relocation to Chicago, Rocky won 1st Place in the 2010 Union League of Chicago's Civic and Arts Foundation Jazz Improvisation Competition.

Rocky specializes in performing and teaching saxophone (soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone), flute, clarinet, recorder, music theory, and jazz studies to students of all levels in both group and private setting. Also, he leads his own quartet and is currently a member of the Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble, led by Darwin Noguera and Victor Garcia.
