Jake Victor - Drums, Percussion, Piano

Jake Victor, born in 1995 and raised in the Chicago suburbs, has enjoyed a varied career as an internationally present composer, pianist, percussionist, and educator. In the fall of 2017, he spent five months studying jazz piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Rob van Bavel and Hans Vroomans. While there, he wrote and recorded the album Twisted Heads with what would become the Jake Victor 5tet: his debut as bandleader and composer. Two selections from the album, Salem and Call to Prayer won the group the prestigious Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award for “Best Undergraduate College Small Jazz Combo” worldwide, voted on by industry professionals. In the summer of 2017, Jake secured an internship with the New York Jazz Academy, teaching lessons, master classes, filling in rhythm section spots, and helping with administrative planning. In addition to his career as a pianist, he has also maintained a career as a percussionist, premiering multiple solo percussion and chamber works over the last few years by composers such as Dominic Ellis and Jocelyn Polczynski, as well as performing works such as Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians alongside his collegiate professors in 2017. He also loves to play drum set, playing in the fan favorite group “Rat Park”. Jake's current focus is writing and performing with the Jake Victor 5tet (NL), and performing with soul/hip-hop singer B Lilly.

Jake is able to adapt to any genre of music as a result of direct experience in the field. Whether it be popular music, hip-hop, rock, math rock, jazz, folk, or anything in between, he has a versatile portfolio to draw from in order to make the music sound its best; something he takes pride in passing along to his students.

Jake graduated from the Lawrence Conservatory of Music in 2018 with a degree in Percussion Performance and a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He currently teaches piano and percussion at Terra Sounds in Glenview, IL.
